New Things Are Exciting

8 Jul

Experiencing new things makes me get excited, a little extra pep in the step. A new book with relevant content has me reading voraciously. Learning a new magic trick makes me want to show someone right away (even though I try NOT to.  New tricks are always better when well rehearsed and presented professionally.)

The real trick is to get the old, mundane, day-to-day tasks seem like they’re new. So, would finding a new way to skim the pool would make this task take on a fresh flavor. I haven’t tried cleaning the pool in my birthday suit; but do you think that would make it more ‘interesting’? Another method might be to imagine, “If you do this task perfectly, you will be paid quite handsomely.” That will only work on your mercenary side. Some people just have that extra internal fortitude that causes them to look at the mundane task as a pleasant experience. I wish I were one of those people.

Today, I got to experience the initial planning meeting for the Texas Association of Magicians convention to be held in Dallas in 2013. So as of this blog, I’m excited. When the steps of getting this thing have become the daily grind, remind me that someone will reward me handsomely if I do the task perfectly. I KNOW I have a little mercenary in me.
